Canons of Thedas

Without further ado, here is the exhaustive list of canons. Characters that have died will not be listed here. Believe it or not, this isn't even the full list. There are a variety of minor characters, even nobles, in the Dragon Age game (e.g. those mentioned in War Table missions, etc.), if you're wondering about someone not on this list-get in touch with Administration.

Minor Canons can be expanded upon by players as semi-original characters since they either had smaller roles in the Dragon Age installements or were hardly mentioned, or even seen, at all. For many of these pseudo-canons, this allowance includes crafting their physical appearances in addition to expanding upon their respective histories and their place in the world of Thedas in general. We've included this lengthy list for those who don't necessarily want to play a Major Canon but likewise don't quite want to build an Original Character entirely from scratch either. Many of these Minor Canons also have extended family beyond what we've compiled here, as well—so that's also an option for crafting OCs in turn.

If it says "Mods Only" beside the name of a Major or Minor Canon, that means the character can only be adopted by a moderator or at the discretion of Administration. Reason being, these are usually leadership roles and could impact other players.

Overpowered canons like Solas, Flemeth, and Morrigan - as well as any Blood Mages (like Merrill) - will only appear in-game as NPCs.

3. Special Consideration

Since they weren't the Warden or Inquisitor, respectively, all other "Origins" from the Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age: Inquisition installation are potentially alive!!! Likewise, since the Hero of Ferelden died, the Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening backstories are also available.

For more info on them, beyond what is listed below, you'll need to do your research via the Dragon Age wiki (which we are not affiliated with, but we do use as a lore resource): Dragon Age Wiki.

Assume those with the same surname are siblings or cousins.

Dragon Age: Origins

COUSLAND ORIGIN

Elissa Cousland (female; cousin to Fergus Cousland and the late Aedan Cousland)

PSST: they are second-cousins to the Hawke siblings!

SURANA ORIGIN - ELVEN MAGES

Alim Surana (male)

Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening

Aedan Cousland made the ultimate sacrifice and Morrigan's dark ritual was not performed, thus the Awakenings storyline would've had an altogether new Warden. Our game's canon replacement is Leonie Caron, an Orlesian Warden. The other Awakening origins have a choice of whether or not they also want to be Grey Wardens, or if players want to craft an alternative story for them.

CARON ORIGIN - OLESIAN NOBLE

Gerod Caron (male; Leonie's brother.)

The Bastards of Highever

We've also decided to muddy the stalwart memory of our dear, late Aedan Cousland. Turns out, he was a bit of a cad and had a thing for barmaids in particular. Apparently, he'd been seducing tavern wenches even well before he became a Grey Warden but it was only after he became posthumously famous that women have come out of the woodwork claiming they've had one of his, many, illegitimate children. So that means, if you really want to, you can roleplay as a Cousland bastard. We're calling them the Bastards of Highever, even if they weren't born there, simply because these women likely went to Teryn Fergus Cousland, either seeking child support or perhaps a better life for the child in question.
