The oldest extant human nation in Thedas, found in the north, is ruled by a powerful magocracy. The leaders of the Imperium are called Magisters, and are led by the Imperial Archon. In ancient times, the Imperium's power was unrivaled and its borders stretched across nearly the entire continent. In modern times, while Tevinter is a shadow of its former self in both size and power, it is still relatively powerful, and a major nation of Thedas. The Imperium is currently at war with the Qunari, with the Nocen Sea, separating their respective nations, being the primary site of said conflict.
Tevene was once the official language of the Tevinter Imperium. In modern Tevinter, however, Tevene has ceased to be the main spoken language among the population in favour of the common tongue. Higher ranking Tevinters often use Tevene phrases as a sign of their education and social standing, however.

Given Dragon Age: Inquisition's in-game implications that Tevinter will play a large part in the upcoming DA4 narrative, we're not as heavily invested in pre-constructing Tevinter gameplay areas within our own game just yet as we want to stay as canon as possible (we will build up these areas after DA4 is released and we have a better notion of the new plots and expanded lore). Tevinter plots here at T&B will be limited until then.
Mysteriously engineered spires, that look like stone but are actually a form of mortar, were erected in the eastern Imperium. Today, they serves as a border marker of sorts, between Tevinter and Antiva.
The capital of the Tevinter Imperium and the largest city in Thedas. Some cellars in Minrathous connect to the ancient catacombs carved out of the bedrock beneath the city. No one knows how far they run.
Those visiting the capital should also be aware that magical duels are not uncommon on the streets of Minrathous.
A settlement found between, and slightly north, of Caimen Brea and Trevis. As with the former, Nessum is likewise found on the tail-end of the Minanter River albeit resting along its northern riverbanks instead.
A gray, wind-blasted wasteland on the southern borders of the Tevinter Imperium, with Nevarra laying further south and the Free Marches to the southeast. The Imperial Highway cuts through the Plains, though bandits brazenly frequent the road.
Ventus, the city formerly known as Qarinus, is a northeastern coastal city in the Tevinter Imperium. By 9:44 Dragon, rumours that a major Qunari invasion of Ventus was imminent became widespread. The city just recently fell to Qunari forces.
