Centuries ago, the Elven kingdom of Elvhenan covered most of Thedas. Its capital, Arlathan, presumably rested in the forest of the same name. The Dalish of this region are notoriously insular and violent, distrusting of outsiders and protective of what remains of their ancient homeland. Arlathan was a place where the best of the ancient elves would go to trade knowledge, greet old friends, and settle disputes that had gone on for millennia, with homes, galleries and amphitheaters that stood for ages. Within the forest, only ruins remain.
There are very few Dalish camps left to be found in Thedas. Keep this in mind during roleplay, as what clans have remained will likely be few in number. If you're playing an elf, you'll need to explain why your character and/or their clan didn't follow after Solas, along with most other elves, in your backstory.
This is from the Trespasser epilogue:
"Many elves left the Inquisition under mysterious circumstances, as did elven servants across Thedas. None could say where they went but those who believed the Inquisitor's story about Fen'Harel wondered just how large the Dread Wolf's forces were... and what the ancient elven rebel had planned. An inquest into the matter bore little enlightenment."
While this doesn't explicitly state the Dalish left along with the City Elves, where our game is concerned, we are working on the assumption that they have.
